AVIDA is NOT a Genetic Algorithm- Tierra is NOT a Genetic Algorithm

Some evos understand that neitehr AVIDA nor Tierra are genetic algorithms. However evoTARDs think that one or both are.

Wikipedia explains what they are:
Avida is an artificial life software platform to study the evolutionary biology of self-replicating and evolving computer programs (digital organisms).
Tierra simulated an evolutionary system by introducing computer programs that competed for computer resources, specifically processor (CPU) time and access to main memory.Genetic algorithms are for solving problems. They should be finite, ie have an end. They employ goal-oriented targeted searches to solve their respective problems. Neither Avida nor Tierra have goals. They may employ algorithms but they are not algorithms. Computer simulations, yes. Genetic algorithms, no.

It depends on your definition of genetic algorithms, Tierra and Avida are actually genetic programming, which is a branch of genetic algorithm and it's more complete as it deals with the reproduction of the program.
"Genetic algorithms are for solving problems. They should be finite, ie have an end."
Not necessarily true, some problems don´t have a single solution, having instead an optimal one. The program can then be run indefinitely.
"They employ goal-oriented targeted searches to solve their respective problems. Neither Avida nor Tierra have goals. "
This is clearly false, while Tierra is more freeform, Avida has goals, which the organism may or may not follow (focusing on other goals like reproduction), as this article shows: http://myxo.css.msu.edu/papers/nature2003/Nature03_Complex.pdf
"They may employ algorithms but they are not algorithms. Computer simulations, yes. Genetic algorithms, no."
This makes no sense at all... of course that the organism is an algorithm. They are programs, with a given initial set of instructions (their dna) which change over time. It´s not a simulation, it´s emulation of life in a simulated environment.
Also... "evotards"? Really?

They have nothing to do with blind watchmaker evolution. They do not simulate natural selection. They do emulate natural selection.

Good, so you agree with me! Nice!
