Kevin is one stupid son-of-a-bitch. There is an evolution algorithm that allowed a computer program to play checkers without explicitly programming it to do so. The program learned to play checkers- it was given the rules and moves, along with other relevant information.
So it learned how to play checkers, as designed, ie it fulfilled the GOAL.

You got that? A program was written with the express purpose of having it "learn" to play checkers, it does that but that was not the goal because no one told the program that was the goal and no one told the program how to reach that goal.

That's from the paper I list Joe. The authors are explicitly stating that there is no design criteria needed.

The design criteria given was the design of the board, the movement of the pieces, everything it needed to be able to learn how to play.
