Mike Keohan- Where's the outrage?
Mike Keohan died in LA, CA on January 29,2007- while in police custody.
He was TASERed 3 times!
He was beaten. Autopsy has been released but not the police report. No cameras- the cop's dashboard cam was (allegedly) not working. He was driving his Lexus in LA. He appeared disoriented- he waited at a green light and then at the next red light got out of his car and approached the car in front of him.
Mike (allegedly) resisted arrest. No one has said what he was under arrest for- leaving his vehicle to ask directions?
Mike Keohan was an overweight middle-aged white guy. He was a graduate of Villanova.
On TV he was referred to as a "petrified piece of wood"- Mike took 3rd place in a recent World Poker tournament. It was broadcast on the Travel Channel.
He was the calm in the eye of the storm type of guy. He was reason when none was to be found.
Oh yeah- his body was unusually warm at the time of the autopsy, meaning he was most likely running a fever, which would account for any disorientation.
Nothing in his system except for minute amounts of THC- nanogram level, meaning a very casual toker. And only on "Refer Madness" did dope lead to rage.
I knew Mike Keohan- he was a good guy, but he was white and overweight (sarcasm). I guess that is a crime punishable by death once you are in LA.
Where's the outrage? Sorry Mike you were just another Mic/ Wop American mutt. Nobody cares about whitebread anymore...
Where's the OUTRAGE?

I'd like to find out more too. I knew Mike, and was a good friend of his in NJ. I heard through the grapevine that he died, but I don't know his family. Is there anything else you can tell me?

I know his family but I don't know any more than I posted.
His brother told me they were awaiting the police report- so far they only have the autopsy.
I will post more as I get the info...

What people need to do is to write Arnold (Govenor Arnold) or the Los Angeles mayor and get to the bottom of this stupid tragedy.
If Mike were another race you bet your arse there would have been a full investigation by now.
His family is still waiting for more info. When I get it I will post it.

Shocking! I used to work with him. Any new updates? I could not find an obituary or news story anywhere.

Nothing new but stay tuned.
I will be going over to his brother's house either this weekend or early next week.
In the meantime send a letter to Govenor Arnold.

I talked with Mike's brother last week. He has a copy of Mike's "Nightmares" (Mike's 2035 movie) and I will be going back over to watch it.
I will be posting a new blog entry soon.
Nothing new- the case is still under investigation.

Joe, I'm so glad to hear that his movie, that he worked so hard at, and became his life to a certain extent, was not lost. When he was in NJ last year he came over to my house and showed it to me. He later sent me a copy (probably been re-cut 10x since), which I can't find (but I'm still looking). I showed it to my cousin who used to be an executive at Bravo TV network. She didn't think much of the movie but wanted to know who the big guy was that played the lead; that he had real talent. I later told Mike her comments. He didn't take the criticism of the movie well. He was stubborn as anyone could be, but he was absolutely brilliant.
I will write the DA or the Gov. I will not forget my friend.

Steve E,
I haven't seen the movie yet but I am looking forward to it.
Mike was a good guy. What he, his brother and I had in common were hot cars. Duke (Mike's bro) had his classic firebird, Mike his organge goat and I have a grand national.
To me Mike was just a guy trying to find himself. Yes he was talented, but he just didn't seem to know what he wanted to do with that talent- like a kid in a candy store that didn't know what to choose.
He was a genuine good-guy who I never knew to do any harm to anybody.

I just came across this, now a year and a half after Mike died. Shocking. I was wondering why I hadn't heard from him or anything about the film. He would call every six months or so to shoot the shit.
I had auditioned when he first started this film. I found out this was his first film ever and it was a feature. Quite a risky undertaking. We discussed crewing up and I mentioned I'd would have liked to AD the film but didn't have the time available. He took me on as an associate producer to help build his website and a few other things. Mostly I just lent an ear and gave him advice, which he would properly refute and tell me how he wasn't asking for advice.
That was his big problem. He didn't listen to anyone. He was very headstrong. He fired a whole production crew and a lead actor and replaced them part way through the shoot. I saw the tension on his set. though everyone involved was very nice. They just had a hard time with Mike.
He insisted on cutting the film himself. I tried to tell him he should get an editor. It looks like he finally came around and found one if you see the trailer up on his YouTube site. At the time that was posted he had failed to get his cut of the film into even some of the low end festivals. One was a porn festival.
Mike was a real character. When he went off on someone it was pretty scary. I never pressed the issue when he told me he wasn't asking for advice. But then he'd come around and discuss what ever it was further. So he was listening.
With this last trailer it looks like he was headed in a good direction. The cut that he sent me is pretty bad and wouldn't go anywhere. But I do see how the film could be salvaged with a good editor.
I hope someone, maybe his family, got a hold of the footage and is looking to see it distributed. With the right pitch and maybe a better cut a distributor might take it on.
