Alan Fox- Ignorant of Body Plans
-
The term "body plan" shouldn't be that big of a deal. After all Linnaean classification and cladistics use body plans to lay of their respective schemes. Alan Fox and other evoTARDs don't seem to be able to grasp that simple fact.
An upright biped, ie humans, have a different body plan than our alleged closest living relative- the chimpanzee. Chimps are knuckle walkers. Their head and body are very different from humans.
In Linnaean taxonomy, all Kingdoms have different body plans. All Phyla have different body plans. The body plans don't stop changing until the Family level and sometimes below that. It all depends.
We, the people, along with scientists, know different organisms due to their differing body plans. A dolphin may look similar to some fish but it does have a different body plan than a fish.
Yes, it is true there are basic body plans- radial symmetry, bilateral symmetry, asymmetrical, vertebrates, invertebrates. But those are just general and not specific enough to allow you to determine what organism you are looking at.
People know a cat from a dog due to the differences in their body plans.
The point is to understand body plans you have to understand how science classifies organisms. We tell different species apart due to the differences in body plans, the differences in coloration or the differences in other parts of the organisms.
Basic science, Alan.
